How many of us remember going to Grandma’s house and grabbing a pair of these slippers from the box on the porch or near the front door? I know I sure do! They were always there and they seemed to last forever. It was the first thing you did when you got there. Of went the dirty boots, and on went the Phentex slippers!

Men’s Classic-Look Slippers are easy crocheted slippers that are both warm and durable. Even a beginner can make these up quickly.

Phentex Slipper and Craft yarn is a bulky weight yarn that allows for a much more durable slipper. Some people may find it uncomfortable due to its coarseness. If you find it too scratchy, try replacing it with a softer yarn of the same weight.

These slippers are made using double strands of yarn. See the notes section before beginning.

Men’s Classic-Look Slippers

Sizes:

– small (fits Men’s US 7 – 8 / EU 40 – 41 / UK 6 – 7/ (9 3/4″ – 10 1/4″ (24.6 to 25.4 cm)))

– medium (fits Men’s US 9 – 10 / EU 42 – 43 / UK 8 – 9/ (10 3/8″ – 10 3/4″ (26.3 – 27.2 cm)))

– large (fits Men’s US 11 – 12 / EU 44 – 45 / UK 10 – 11/ (11″ – 11 3/8″ (28 – 29.5 cm)))

– extra-large (fits Men’s US 13 / EU 46 / UK 12/ (11 5/8″ (29.5)))

Gauge:

11 sts x 8 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in hdc.

Hooks:

6.00 mm/US J10

Yarn:

Phentex slipper and Craft yarn – 1 skein main colour (150m/184y/85g/3oz), 1 skein contrast colour (150m/184y/85g/3oz)

Other Items Needed:

Scissors
Measuring Tape
Tapestry Needle

Notes:

You only need one skein of each colour to make the pair of slippers. However; because they are worked double strand, you might find it easier to use two skeins of each colour. Rather than divide each skein into two equal balls.

Stitches used in this pattern:

ch, sl st, sl st tbl, sc, sc tbl, hdc, hdc tbl

Let’s get started making your Men’s Classic-look Slippers…

(Make 2)

Working double strand with main colour; ch 29 (31, 33, 35)

Row 1: Beginning and second change from hook; 23 (25, 27, 27) hdc, 3 (3, 3, 4) sc, 2 (2, 2, 3) sl st, turn. [28, 30, 32, 34]

Row 2: ch 1, 2 (2, 2, 3) sl st tbl 3, (3, 3, 4) sc tbl, 23 (25, 27, 27) hdc tbl, turn. [28, 30, 32, 34]

Again, working double strand: change to contrast colour.

Row 3: ch 1, 23 (25, 27, 27) hdc tbl, 3 (3, 3, 4) sc tbl, 2 (2, 2, 3) sl st tbl, turn. [28, 30, 32, 34]

Row 4: ch 1, 2 (2, 2, 3) sl st tbl, 3 (3, 3, 4) sc tbl, 23 (25, 27, 27) hdc tbl, turn. [28, 30, 32, 34]

Repeat rows 3 and 4, changing colours every two rows until you have 18 rows in total (9 stripes) for small and medium, and 22 rows in total (11 stripes).
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Finishing:

Fold piece in half lengthwise with wrong side facing you.

Using a mattress stitch sew the edges of both sides of the wider end together to form the back of the slipper.

Using two strands of Main colour and your tapestry needle; weave yarn through the ends of the narrow edge and pull tight to close. Secure.

Using a mattress stitch; sew through both sides up the length of the foot leaving the last 15 (16, 17, 18) stitches on each side unworked.

And that’s it! You’re finished!
