Cover-Up for V-Necks

This pattern creates a quick and easy cover-up for v-necks to provide modesty when your top is cut lower than you like. The pattern is easily adjustable to accommodate changes in length.

Crochet: Women’s Accessories

Sizes: One Size (27cm x 15cm)

Skill Level: Easy

US Terminology

Resources: Abbreviations Chart, Stitch Chart

Gauge: 7 sts x 9 rows = 2.5cm (1”) with 2.75mm/ US C2 hook in sc

Hooks: 2.75 mm/US C2

Yarn: Aunt Lydia’s Crochet Cotton: (#10): colour – Amount: 15g

Other Items Needed:

  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Measuring Tape
  • Buttons x 2: 0.8cm (1/3″)

Notes:

  • Total width: 42cm (16 ½”)
  • Bib length: 15cm (6″)
  • Bib width (at top): 27cm (10 ½”)
  • Strap ends: length – 7cm (3”), width – 1cm (1/3”)

* Measure the space between your bra straps with your bra on. Now measuring from that height and centered on your chest; measure the length you want it to be.

* If you follow the instructions below, you will get the measurements listed above. To adjust the width; decrease or increase the number of times you repeat row 2. To adjust the length, alter the number of times you repeat row 33.

* The instructions below were written for my size. My required measurements were 8” wide by 6” to 7” long. As written, the pattern allows for approximately 1” or so extra in length and width to accommodate for shrinkage.

* To wear; wrap each strap around your bra straps and insert the button: from the back, through one of the v-sts to fasten.

Stitches used in this pattern: ch, sc, dc, v-st

Let’s get started on your Cover-up for V-necks…

Bib Section:

Row 1: ch 11, beginning in second ch from hook: sc across, turn [10]

Row 2: ch 1, sc, Inc, sc to last 2 sts, inc, sc, turn [12]

Rows 3 – 32: Rep row 2 until desired width is reached. [70]

If you reach your desired width before row 32; jump to row 33.

* if using 100% cotton, make the piece at least one to two sizes larger to accommodate for shrinking in the laundry.

Row 33: ch 1, sc across, turn [70]

Rows 34 – 41: Rep row 33  [70]

If you reach your desired length before row 41; jump to row 42.

Row 42: ch 1, standing dc, *sk 2, v-st* 22 times to last 3 sts, sk 2, dc , turn [22 v-sts, 2 dc]

Row 43: ch 1, sc in each dc and ch 1 sp across, f/o [68]

Adding Straps

Row 1: ch 17, sc across row 43 a first part, ch 18, turn [103]

Row 2: Starting in second chain from hook, 68 sc, sc in 17 ch, turn [102]

You should have extensions on each side of the bib.

Row 3: ch 1, sc across, turn [102]

Row 4: rep row 3, fasten off [102]

Sew a small button on each strap end. Block if needed.
